Joris Voorn has a comfortable seat within the upper echelons of the techno community.
Mention the name Joris Voorn within the techno community and you will hear more than your fair share of praises. Whether it's with releases such as ‘Incident’ or his latest remix of the crossover dance hit ‘Dark Flower’, you will undoubtedly see this man's records sitting tucked neatly in your cherished record box.
Towards the end of 2000 Joris released his first EP called ‘Muted Trax pt.1’ on Keynote, with thumbs up from Carl Craig and Laurent Garnier. In 2003 ‘Lost Memories Pt.1’ was released on Technasia’s SINO label, followed in 2004 by ‘Lost Memories Pt.2’ containing ‘Missing’ and ‘Incident’ the latter of which became one of the most hammered anthems of the year, charted in almost every dance magazine worth its salt and made #1 in Mixmag’s Techno Singles Chart. Joris then released his debut cd album called ‘Future History’ on the Sino label, a 19 track electronic sound journey which affirmed his arrival as one of the most relevant techno producers around.
In 2006 the first release through his ‘Green’ imprint, named ‘MPX_309’, was played out by techno, minimal, house and trance DJs alike. His second album, ‘From A Deep Place’ was released worldwide in June 2007. This piece of work features a broad spectrum of electronic music, ranging from atmospheric interludes to broken beats, house and deep soulful techno. It garnered much critical acclaim by the electronic music community. 2008 was another exciting year, beside playing around all of Europe, Asia and the USA, Joris focused on remixing Slam, Robert Babicz, Nic Fanciulli and Jerome Sydenham,
Amsterdam based Joris Voorn is the next DJ to undertake a mix for the popular Balance series, and has crammed 102 tunes into the double-disc compilation. It’ll be released March 2009 through EQ Recordings. With Balance 014 Joris has taken the next step in the series being a vehicle for artistic freedom. Long-term fans won't be surprised by his approach to the mix, as his FUSE compilation from 2005 saw him use a similar methodology. This time around, however, he's using a higher frequency of smaller loops to create a sound collage that relies less on the individual tracks themselves.
As a DJ and live performer Joris Voorn has joined an elite group of international dj’s whose musical talent has acquired global appeal. His sound can be described as a mixture of house, techno and electro - varying from funky, minimal and deep, to more pumping, melodic atmospheric style with a Detroit twist. Joris has undoubtedly shown no signs of letting up and continues to push the musical boundaries of electronic music.
