Social Media Club Arnhem

Chris Heuer and Kristie Wells started Social Media Club (SMC) in March 2006 to help people find all the relevant communities of interest in which they want to participate. We want to help you explore your personal and professional passions by helping you connect with a community of your peers based on both geography and areas of interest. We want to ensure that the world of Social Media does not become an echo chamber of self-reinforcing thoughts, but is instead fueled by diversity of opinion and perspective. The first chapter launched in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA (USA) on August 16, 2006. See below for individual chapter information.

Mission
Social Media Club brings together journalists, publishers, communications professionals, artists, amateur media creators, citizen journalists, teachers, students, tool makers, and other interested collaboraters.

Essentially the people who create and consume media who have an interest in seeing the ‘media industry’ evolve for everyone’s benefit. We are more than just USERS, we are the reason the tools exist – we are the people who communicate our thoughts and ideas near and far. Join us and let’s shape the future together!

We are working on our Four Missions Project and are gathering volunteers to drive them forward: Media Literacy, Sharing Lessons Learned, Encourage Adoption of Industry Standards, Promote Ethical Behavior.

Organizational Structure
The business and affairs of Social Media Club are managed and controlled by an interim board of directors consisting of five (5) people. We also have an Advisory Group consisting of 40+ of well respected industry professionals. Chapters As of July 1, 2009 there are 72 active chapters in nine (9) countries, and 95 in the process of forming.

Hmmmm, get what? Well, the simple explanation of our tag line is that if you understand Social Media, share your understanding with others. Don’t just horde it all to yourself as if we still lived in a world where keeping knowledge within a given SILO was the smart thing to do.
