Somedays you just run into an app that's just as brilliant as beautifull, today I ran into newsstand, an RSS reader for the iPhone.
Something I really miss on my iPhone is a decent news reader, normally I just use the web version of google reader, but a native app is just way smoother and don't forget we also have pincing, landscape reading and swipe actions just right there in the palm of your hand.
Reading a post in newsstand
So when I met
Martijn Aslander today, he showed me this awesome news reader app and well, since he's the information specialist of days, I couldn't refuse and try it myself.
Categoric overview of my feeds
You can
buy Newsstand in the iTunes store for € 3,99, not an easy price but well... Good apps come at a cost and in the end it'll be more efficient than starting a web browser myself.
Also sharing is made a lot easier on this app, thanks to support for multi link-sharing communities including :
I wrote about
readitlater in this review before and well, this just makes my information flow just a bit easier.
Sharing a post in newsstand couldn't be easier
Reading news always starts in categories, from where you can go deeper into it and read seperate feeds or just the new articles in a category. Sharing afterwards is easy and thanks to synchronisation with google reader, I never read an article multiple times.
One of the features more interesting for less feeded users is the real "news stand" feature, where you can "Swipe" between newspapers and visually see the news passing by. I love to show this to others but with 125 feeds in my reader, not really that interesting, although it gives me a quickscan of topics in my reader at this moment.

Newsstand overview, great news visualisation
Conclusion:
Information weapon of choice, newsstand is really awesome. Push messages (although not working on my iPhone) would make this one really excellent and the lack of user suggested content (Google reader allows this since a short period of time) would finish this product.
