We're just getting warmed up in the Social Media atmosphere, trend reports showing that "
social (dutch)" is the main word in 2010, but we're also
closing down. Establishing policies, "firewalling" social activity and firing employees for
not being social.
But what's next ? What's my vision on 2010 ? Are we going to form the new "semantic web" ? Are tools finally setting benchmarks for "open data", interconnecting and sharing knowledge ? Let's get in to that :)
We're already sharing a lot of our data on the net and thanks to technologically advanced ideas like RSS I can easily distribute my content to a majority of networks, some shown in the proces below.
I know there's a lot of information into that small image, but I hope to get this clearer in the near future.
In the end it all comes to this, pictures, movies, blogs, and microblogs, all are distributed into several streams and feeds. This ensures my "presence" and you'll almost never hit an empty profile from my side. This process should be simplified, for example in a concept called "
unified messaging", one of the predictions for 2010.
Next step thinking
1. 2010 will facilitate
distributed sharing, all those technologic tools and feeds, are simply combined into one service. Mobypicture already offers this for pictures, video and audio, but text and microblogs will soon follow. Nice to see ping.fm for example is hitching on, and complexer software like Hootsuite is also integrating those services better.
2. 2010 will be the year of
Global Profiling, OpenID was (partially) doing this, but started to early and didn't get enough attention to perk through the establishment, so they didn't really make it. Google Enters this realm with their Google Profiles and all it's services, online and offline, making sure your data is smeared through the pipes of the internet. Google Wave was another advancement in creating those profiles for you, in the end you'll be able to "connect" using your Google Profile, simply anywhere (their presence on airports isn't going unnoticed)
3. 2010 will be the year of
Service Spotting, instead of searching we'll head deeper into a "service spotting" culture, where reviews are shared thanks to distributed sharing, and your friends, thanks to Global Profiling, will always be connected to that.
4. 2010 will be the year of
24/7 Connectiveness, Apple will most surely introduce a new, revolutionary device. The Apple "tablet" will change the way we handle magazines and "written" media, next to an increase in sharing media using the tablet and distributed sharing, as stated in #1.
5. 2010 will be the year of
insight, social media monitoring will be larger than ever and tools to monitor, share and engage with your stakeholders will bloom. Something I'll be into with my own business next year
6. 2010 will be the year of
communities, and I'll be profiling myself more and more on community management. Inside and outside of organisations, in observing the communities involved with your business, connecting with them, reacting authentically and transparent, creating a bigger value-network than ever, not just around more income, but also in social capital value.
7. 2010 will be the
augmented year, with the maturity of platforms like
layar, integration into several other sites and tools and the penetration of mobile (phones) it finally has it's liftoff in the bigger market than just the trendwatchers/early adapters.
What are your social and semantic insights for 2010 ? Anything I should really know about ?
