Google is 'pissed off', zoals de Amerikanen dat zo mooi zeggen. Na een jarenlange samenwerking met de Chinese Overheid om censuur toe te passen op de zoek resultaten, hebben ze nu een fortune cookie van eigen deeg te pakken. Chinezen hebben het Google mail systeem gehacked.
Google heeft tot nu toe meegewerkt aan een zekere mate van censuur over de informatie resultaten vanaf Chinese computers en werkte daarmee impliciet samen met de Chinese overheid. Maar daar is Google op terug gekomen, omdat uit dank voor die samenwerking, de Chinese Overheid bij Google zou hebben ‘ingebroken’.
Op de
Google blog valt te lezen:
“
In mid-December (2009), we detected a highly sophisticated and targeted attack on our corporate infrastructure originating from China that resulted in the theft of intellectual property from Google. However, it soon became clear that what at first appeared to be solely a security incident--albeit a significant one--was something quite different.
First, this attack was not just on Google. As part of our investigation we have discovered that at least twenty other large companies from a wide range of businesses--including the Internet, finance, technology, media and chemical sectors--have been similarly targeted. We are currently in the process of notifying those companies, and we are also working with the relevant U.S. authorities.
Second, we have evidence to suggest that a primary goal of the attackers was accessing the Gmail accounts of Chinese human rights activists.”
Er zijn in onze wereld, zo blijkt uit andere publicaties, diverse spionage netwerken actief. Eentje daarvan heet Ghostnet en de
Information Warfare Monitor uit maart 2009 schrijft daarover:
“GhostNet represents a network of compromised computers ( >1000) resident in high value political, economic and media locations spread across countries worldwide. Our investigation reveals that GhostNet is capable of taking full control of infected computers, including searching and downloading specific files and covertly operating attached devices including microphones and web camera’s.
The most obvious explanation and certainly the one in which the circumstantial evidence would be that this set of high profile targets has been exploited by the Chinese State….and many of the high value targets are clearly linked to Chinese foreign and defence policy.”
Chinezen en censuur? Ook in het Westen rukt de controledrang van de gevestigde orde op!
Australië overweegt ‘overheidsfilters’ voor websites. In Italië wil de overheid websites weren die ‘tegen Berlusconi’ zijn. En volgens de auteurs van het boek
‘Access Controlled’ is ook voor veel (Westerse) landen de drang tot controleren zo groot, dat de vrijheid van meningsuiting hiervoor maar moet wijken.
En Amerika? De Verenigde Staten monitoren ons hele data- en betalingsverkeer via het internet en alle andere communicatiesystemen, zoals het bancaire Swift systeem, in het kader van terroristen bestrijding. Zij volgen ons tot diep in onze eigen thuis PC's.
Er zitten weer vele "Big Brothers" aan te komen. Een zorgelijke ontwikkeling!
