Strange IE8 Errors

Sebastiaan van Hamond - Wednesday 23 June 2010 - 07:23 - 90 x read
During the week I'm working with a mac at my work in Amsterdam so I didn't notice this strange behaviour before. But yesterday I looked at our Mindz page on my home computer, an old Windows XP thing, and the errors where flying left and right of me. Only the right column seemed to load, also not entirely correct, but still better than nothing.
I searched all over the internet for the errors I got, and thought I'd found a solution, the errors had to do with a foulty code in the Twitter widget. So I downloaded widget.js, the file which contained the error, fixed it and uploaded the js file to our server. Renewed the source link and hoped it was over. After emptying the temp files from exporer and cookies and everything, I reloaded the page......
Well the initial errors where gone, but the page now gave another error saying that some script is slowing the entire browser. Of course it didn't say which script. So right now I'm clueless what is causing the error.

So I now deleted the code of both Twitter embeds, and have to find a Windows laptop somewhere here at work, since it's an entire mac community here. If I find a windows pc I'll test it and hopefully it will work. After that it's trial and error to fix the problems.

Also I saw that the RSS embed gives an error in Safari. Last time I programmed websites was during my study, also had a few strange incompatibility errors from different browsers. Seems nothing has changed since then. So for everyone who wants to watch our Mindz page, please use Mozilla Firefox, that seems to work everytime.

Hi Sebastiaan,

I've been checking your Plaza and found out what's causing the problem.
You have placed a donate button in the right column.
The script uses a form tag though. Form tags are currently not supported in Mindz. Because of this the donate button does not work. I recommend placing a simple link to a paypal page or something similar where people can donate.

We are working on a 'sandbox' implementation where you can add any script whatsoever to a Mindz page and it will run in a seprate sandboxed environment so it will never break the page.
It will be ready in the near future.

Good luck with your Plaza. If you need more help let me know.

@Marc, Thank you very much it does work after deleting the form. The only problem that stays is the RSS feed which gives an error in Safari and IE. I'll try to find another way of showing our latest blog items.
