Afghanistan continued
I am now 2 1/2 month in Afghanistan. In reality being in Afghanistan 3 months in a row is too long. Everything is quite primitive. I am still lucky to go to other places like Kandahar and Mazar. There you still have somewhere to go to and you are not locked up between 4 walls. The weather is till now always nice but every day a lot of dust. You get a lot of nose bleeds of the dryness. If you fly...

Living in Afghanistan
Probably people are wondering if it is safe in Afghanistan. The answer is no. Danger lies around every corner. By day you see people having public functiosn but at night they are the Taliban.
But you get used to live with it. I think the most dangerous thing in Afghanistan are the roads. They realy can not drive. They make use of every corner in the road. They pass you and then break for they have...

My first 6 weeks in Afghanistan
At the moment I am more than 6 weeks in Afghanistan. I must say it is not as bad as you imagine. Of course it is not always safe. The first 34 weeks I was mainly on the two compounds of my company. Sometimes we go to another compound to have a drink. Also we went to an Indian restaurant for the birthday of one of the people on the compound. This Indian restaurant is in the middle of Kabul. The...

Kabul
Another week has passed. This week I went to one of the other compounds where you still can have a drink. As employee of one of the compounds you can get on the other ones. Sometimes a person living on the compound has to stay with you. We also had a barbeque evening on the new compound. It was a nice evening. Most evenings are boaring. Nothing to do.
The people you work with are a nice bunch....

Life in Kabul Afghanistan.
As a foreigner you are living on a compound guarded by security forces 24 hours a day. The company I work for has two compounds, one within the Kabul security area and one just outside the iron belt.
They are still building on the new one and when this is finished everything will be moved to the new compound. Till now I haven’t noticed anything of the war. The company supplies food to the...

Afghanistan and IT.
I am sorry I haven't written for more than a week. The reason is that I was negotiating my new position in Afghanistan in a PX.
The intention is to work on the IT. Taking care that new software is installed. (Financial, WMS, distribution, purchase and sales). For companies it is very difficult to find the right people to work there. Most people only stay for a year. It is very intensive 13...

Short update.
Today I again will have contact with the company to see if we can find a solution. They say it is a misunderstanding. Partly this is right since the headhunting office had the same understanding as I had. So maybe in the start the information was wrong.
I still think it is an interesting job. But the job should also come with the right pay and benefits. For do not forget that...
